Victorian-Federation Homestead
Would you like to own a piece of our local history? This restored historic homestead could be yours. Built by Jasper Pridham circa 1900 from reclaimed henpecked stone collected from the demolition of the chimney at the Whites Valley Flour Mill, as well as limestone ballast from the old flour store in Port Willunga. Another well known local family, the Croser family, owned the property after the Pridhams. Residents and visitors to the area before the 1990s will recall seeing the rather derelict building sitting in the middle of open paddocks. The large parcel of land was redeveloped into residential lots, leaving the old homestead nestled amongst new homes.
Then the current owners bought it in 2003 and began the task of restoring this grand old lady to her former glory. They have fully rewired and replumbed the house and added ducted reverse cycle air conditioning. The four marble fireplaces are all operating and there is a large woodshed. Restoration of the original Baltic Pine floorboards was a major task, as well as repairing and plastering the walls before repainting. The ornate pressed metal ceilings are original, and in their day, were quite a status symbol.
