Sweat the small stuff

It’s often said ‘don’t sweat the small stuff,’ however, there may be advantages to being known for your attention to detail. In real estate, details will often make or break a sale and as such, developing your attention to detail in the New Year could help further your career.

With this in mind, we’ve outlined four simple but effective tips for improving your attention to detail.

1. Double-check: while this may seem like an obvious step, it is often overlooked in busy situations where time is of the essence. It may be worth the time to briefly pause and return to the source of any facts and figures you’re using for any piece of work to ensure that they’ve been listed correctly;

2. Sleep well: while caffeine can be a substitute for sleep, it’s important to rest up and according to the National Institute of Health in America, a good night’s sleep will improve your intellectual function, alertness and mood;

3. Remove distractions: if you find yourself being constantly distracted by email, phones and instant messaging, you may find it beneficial to mute these for a period of time to help improve your concentration. If you are able to completely focus on a task you’re less likely to make mistakes on minor details;

4. Organise your time: if you’re rushing to complete something, it’s likely that you won’t be able to give it the time necessary to complete the task and ensure all of the details are correct. As such, it may be beneficial to if possible, allocate time a week before a task is due to start work on it so you’re not rushing at the last minute.
